Who are we?
Cellarius Horoscope is a project of Peter de Rooij (ChronosLabs, P. de Rooij, Hoorn, the Netherlands, privacy@cellariushoroscope.com). Peter de Rooij is responsible for the processing of your data as described below. You can send privacy questions to privacy@cellariushoroscope.com.
In short
- We store nothing about you. Your details are only used to make your horoscope, and are then forgotten. There are no accounts and no email subscription.
- What you enter in a form (name, date, time and place of birth) your browser remembers only temporarily in this tab, so you do not have to enter it again for every calculator; that memory stays in your own browser, disappears as soon as you close the tab and can be cleared at once with the "Clear my details" button.
- We use only one cookie, and only if you choose a language yourself (see below), and no analytics or advertising services. We do not sell or share your data with others.
- The positions of the Sun, Moon and planets are calculated with astronomical precision for your moment and place of birth. The interpretation follows the Western astrological tradition: a centuries-old way of looking at the sky, not a scientific prediction.
Language choice and cookies
- The language of the website is part of the address (for example
/en-us). When you first arrive on the home page, we choose the language from your browser's language setting (which your browser sends itself); we store nothing when doing so. - If you choose a language yourself in the language menu, we set one functional cookie called
taal: only the language code (for examplenl), valid for 1 year, for our own site only, without any identifier and without passing data to third parties. It is only there to open the home page in your language next time. You can always delete the cookie in your browser. Because you ask for it yourself and it is needed for that function, no consent banner is required. - If you do not choose a language yourself, we set no cookie at all.
- Fonts are served from our own server; no fonts or scripts from third parties are loaded.
If you have a horoscope made
You enter your first name, (optionally) surname, form of address, date of birth, time of birth and place of birth.
- The chart is calculated and the text is written on our own computer. The language model that writes the text runs locally; your details are not sent to an external AI service and are not used to train a model. Only the names themselves go to that local model for the name meaning.
- On the way there, your details pass through our website on Vercel and through a secure connection from Cloudflare (a tunnel) to our own computer. They are only passed on there, not stored and not written to logs.
- The place name and country you enter are sent to OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) to find the coordinates. No name or other personal information goes there.
- If you ask for an AI guess for a first name that has no meaning in our list, only that first name goes (via Vercel and Cloudflare, as described above) to the local language model on our own computer; we do not store the name, do not record it in logs and do not send it to an external AI service.
- After showing your result we store nothing. No data is saved and there are no accounts.
Your IP address
- Vercel, which hosts our website, sees the IP address of every visitor and may keep it in its own logs. According to Vercel, those logs are kept for one day on our plan..
- In our website we make the IP address unrecognizable with a secret key before a request goes to our own computer. This is pseudonymisation, not anonymisation: whoever has the key could still work out which address is behind it. We do not store the IP address.
- Cloudflare and our own computer never see the IP address. They only receive the opaque key. We use it briefly, in memory only, for a limit on the number of requests per visitor, to prevent abuse. The key is not stored.
Your location on the moon page
On the moon page you can choose "for your location" on a small map. Only after you click does your browser ask for your location. It stays in the memory of the page and is not sent or stored.
Who receives your data?
- Vercel (hosting of the website) sees visitors' IP addresses and processes the requests as a processor, under Vercel's data processing agreement. Vercel is a US company, so data may end up outside the EEA; that happens on the basis of Vercel's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
- Cloudflare (the tunnel to our own computer) carries the requests from our website, including the details you enter, but does not see any visitor's IP address, only the hashed key. Cloudflare acts as a processor under its data processing agreement. Cloudflare is also a US company; for data that ends up outside the EEA, Cloudflare's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework applies, with the European Commission's standard contractual clauses as a fallback.
- OpenStreetMap/Nominatim only receives the place name and country (see above).
- Rijkswaterstaat (the Dutch water authority) provides the tide forecast as open data. Our own computer fetches it; no visitor data goes there.
- Nobody else. We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.
How do we protect your data?
The website talks to our own computer through a secure connection and a secret key; the connection is not publicly reachable. Our language model is never directly reachable from outside. We do not log personal data. Requests are protected against abuse with limits.
Your rights
You have the right of access, correction and deletion of your data, to restriction of processing, to object and to data portability. Because we store nothing about you, there is nothing for us to show or delete; the IP address in Vercel's logs falls under Vercel. You can send questions or requests to privacy@cellariushoroscope.com; we respond within one month. Do you disagree with how we handle your data? Then you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
Automated texts
The positions of the Sun, Moon and planets are determined exactly with astronomical calculations. The text that explains those positions is written by a computer model that runs locally, based on your birth details and the positions of the planets today. The daily texts for each sign are written with the help of AI, checked automatically and read through in spot checks. The positions of the Sun, Moon and planets are calculated with astronomical precision for your moment and place of birth. The interpretation follows the Western astrological tradition: a centuries-old way of looking at the sky, not a scientific prediction. The texts do not lead to decisions about you.
